Surabhi Sharma
At a time when the Indian scenario was bursting with opportunities of independent film making, Surabhi Sharma completed her Diploma in Direction from the prestigious FTII Pune, with perfect timing in 1998. She says nostalgically,"The time was exciting and the industry was radically changing because of the advent of digital technology."
When Surabhi came face to face with the work of Film makers like,Anand Patwardhan, Reena Mohan, Vasudha Joshi, Ranjan Palit, Deepa Dhanraj, Soudhamini and R.V. Ramani, she felt something inside her, move.
Having been deeply influenced by their style of film making, she felt the need to narrate stories about her very own city, Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay).Considering the technical mastery that she achieved in creating fiction films, the transition from fiction to non fiction was easy. The journey began from "Jari Mari: of cloth and other stories." And has been an exciting and fulfilling one ever since.
Surabhi firmly believes that most of the interesting work happening around her is in the area of veritable story telling and the short film style.
